General Test Information
The test is non-competitive. Dogs are not required to have formal obedience training in order to participate in or successfully complete this test, however many clubs and training schools offer preparation courses for the test. Dogs must be at least 12 months old to participate in the test.
The test consists of 12 steps, and each requires a “Pass” evaluation in order for your dog to receive a Canine Good Neighbour certification.

No membership or registration with CKC is required to have your dog tested!
Can I use treats or toys for the test?
No, treats or toys may not be used during the test.
What are the requirements for a dog to be tested?
Any dog over the age of 12 months may be tested through the Canine Good Neighbour program.
What do I get if my dog passes the test?
You will receive an official certificate from the Canadian Kennel Club and registered dogs may add “CGN” to the end of their name.
